Frequently Asked Questions
What are the three training modes?
Name It highlights a note on the fretboard and asks you to name it. Find It gives you a note name and asks you to locate it. Memory combines both, gradually increasing difficulty as you improve. Each mode has Practice and Timed variants.
How do I change the fretboard theme?
Open the app, tap the menu icon, then select Fretboard Style. You'll find five themes: Rosewood, Maple, Ebony, Walnut, and Midnight.
The tuner isn't detecting my guitar — what should I do?
Make sure you've granted microphone permission to FretTrainer EZ. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and toggle the app on. Play cleanly and hold the note — the tuner works best with sustained notes in a quiet environment.
How do I use the Circle of Fifths?
Tap any key on the Circle to highlight its diatonic chords and relative minor. The chord chart below updates in real time, showing common progressions for that key. Use the progression jammer to tap through chords and hear how they sound together.
How many scales are included?
The Scale Explorer includes over 100 scales — major, minor, pentatonic, blues, modes, and more — in all 12 keys. Root notes are color-coded for easy identification across the full neck.
Is the app free? Are there in-app purchases?
FretTrainer EZ is free to download. Check the App Store listing for the most current information on any premium features.
Will my progress sync across devices?
Currently, all data is stored locally on your device. iCloud sync is on our roadmap for a future update.
How do I reset my scores?
Tap the Reset button in any training mode to clear your current session. To wipe all stored preferences, delete and reinstall the app.
